What is a guarantor? · 什么是担保人？

A guarantor is a person or company who promises a landlord that the rent will be paid, and that damage beyond fair wear and tear will be made good, if the tenant does not do so. The promise is made in a deed of guarantee.
担保人是向房东承诺的个人或公司：如果租客未支付租金或未赔偿超出合理损耗的损坏，担保人将代为承担。该承诺以担保契据的形式作出。

Most UK landlords and letting agents ask a student tenant for a UK-based guarantor. A student who cannot provide one is often asked for six or twelve months' rent in advance, or turned away.
